Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better they did. I trumped yesterday, actually I double trumped yesterday. I did 63 miles from Melbourne to Jensen Beach on the ICW. I sailed every bit of it downwind leaving at 7:05 AM and arriving at 5:25 PM.
I was asked by a bridge tender to not sail through so I had to start the motor for that and then also coming back up into the wind to the anchorage. In total, I would guess I put around 20 minutes on the engine all day.
While I was going through the bridge my brother called and we chatted for a little while. He asked where and how I was doing, etc. I told him I was just about to anchor and going to stay in Fort Pierce for the night. I hung up with him and went back to daydreaming about how great the sail has been today. About 2 miles later I realized finally I had passed up the anchorage. Oops. I checked the chart again and noticed I only had 15 miles more to go before Jensen Beach. I figured I’d make it there by sunset and went for it.
This is hands down the best day I have ever had on the ICW. Even everyone on the radio today was giving VHF high fives they were so excited about the conditions. Now I’m looking forward to a few days of bridges ahead of me. I’m really glad I was able to get some good sailing in before heading through all of them.
